Grant Funds Available
for Crime-Victim Service Agencies

DES MOINES.   State and federal grant funds are available for agencies that provide services to victims of crimes in Iowa. The Crime Victim Assistance Division of the Iowa Attorney General's Office administers the grant funds, which are available from several sources:

State funds are available for domestic violence and sexual assault programs, including the Iowa Domestic Abuse Hotline and the Iowa Sexual Assault Hotline.

Federal funds from the Dept. of Health and Human Services, Family Violence Prevention and Services Act, are available to programs providing services to victims of domestic violence.

Federal funds from the Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime, are available to programs providing direct services to victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, child abuse, and previously-underserved victims. Previously-underserved victim programs include (but are not limited to) programs for survivors of homicide, incest survivor programs, and county attorney victim/witness services.

Federal funds from the Department of Justice, Violence Against Women Act Office are available to programs such as victim services, prosecution, law enforcement, and other programs providing services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

Applications for funds are available from the Crime Victim Assistance Division website at http://victimservicegrant.iowa.gov. An application must be submitted on-line, along with an original hard-copy application signed in blue ink, and fifteen copies. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. February 24, 2006, at the Crime Victim Assistance Division, Lucas State Office Building, 321 East 12th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50319

In the current year, approximately 83 local and several statewide agencies are receiving a total of about $8.5 million in state and federal funds to support their work with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and other crimes.
