David Alan Lenox Pleads Guilty to First-Degree Murder

David Alan Lenox, age 34, pled guilty Wednesday in Grundy County to a charge of murder in the first degree.

The plea ends the prosecution of Mr. Lenox for three crimes arising out of occurrences in rural Grundy County on June 19, 2000. Lenox was charged with the first-degree murder of Ruth Melver, age 35, of rural Grundy County; the attempted murder of Deanna Tough, age 34, of rural Grundy County; and the first-degree kidnaping of a 16-year-old female houseguest of Melver and Tough.

The first-degree murder conviction is punishable by a mandatory penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The other charges will be dismissed when Lenox is sentenced.

Mr. Lenox will be sentenced in Grundy County District Court on November 13, 2000. The prosecution has been handled by the Attorney General's Office and the Office of the Grundy County Attorney.
