Judge Hands Down Sentences in Film Office Case

(DES MOINES, Iowa)  A Polk County judge Tuesday sentenced Minnesota film producer Wendy Weiner Runge to ten years in prison.  District Judge Douglas Staskal sentenced Runge, 46, after she pleaded guilty during her trial in February to one count of Fraudulent Practice in the First Degree, a Class-C felony.  As part of the plea, Runge admitted that she made false statements to the state in her effort to obtain Iowa film tax credits.

Also Tuesday, the judge sentenced Matthias Saunders, 39, of Minnesota, to a ten-year suspended prison term after he pleaded guilty in November to Theft in the First Degree, a Class-C felony.

Chase Brandau, 26, of Minnesota, received a deferred judgment after pleading guilty in January to Theft in the Second Degree, a Class-D felony.
