RECIPROCITY:
In lieu of examination, the board may grant
registration by reciprocity.
Applicants must have a current NCARB Certificate.
Applicants who intend to offer services
in Iowa
prior to acceptance of may do so if the applicant complies with subrule 2.2(2). Download the notice of intent to offer
services here.
Applicants are required to contact NCARB and have a copy of
their council certificate record (blue cover) transmitted to the Iowa
Board.

The completed Iowa
application and check for $200.00 should be mailed directly to the
Iowa Board at the address listed on the form NCARB will transmit the certificate
record to the Iowa board office.
The $200.00 fee is valid until
the next renewal date and is not pro-rated, thus if an applicant
applies in May for a registration that should be renewed by June 30, the
registration may be valid for less than two months. Individuals whose last
name begins A-K renew in even numbered years; L-Z renew in odd numbered
years.
The reciprocal
application must be approved by four (4) members of the Board.
Applications are processed by staff on an on-going basis and are not
held until the next board meeting. Approval takes approximately one
to two weeks from the date of receipt of both the BLUE COVER and
Iowa Application.
If the applicant intends
to offer architectural services or practice architecture in Iowa under your
firm’s name then your firm must make application to practice as a
Business Entity. The form is
available on the Board’s Index page under “Business”.
