Under immediate supervision, on an internship appointment basis, performs a variety of tasks assisting administrative and/or technical program managers in developing data and documentation to meet organizational and program objectives and the requirements of the educational program in which enrolled; performs related work as required.

As part of the 2014 Energy Summer Intern Program sponsored by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), the Iowa Utilities Board (Board) is seeking a graduate student interested in the energy sector for a 10-week internship. The selected intern will work at the Board's office which is located in Des Moines, Iowa.

The intern will receive a stipend from NARUC while working for the Board in various areas of energy regulation. NARUC will provide a stipend of $5,000 payable directly to the intern in two installments for a 10-week internship. NARUC requires that the intern prepare a short report at the end of the internship, detailing work activities and accomplishments. The intern will have the opportunity to work on technical, economics, and regulatory policy matters with the policy section of the Board. Specifically, the intern will have the opportunity to work with Board staff on Distributed Generaltion Notice of Intent, which examines technical, financial, regulatory and safety aspects of use of distributed generation resources. In addition, the intern would work on various other matters such as participation in regional transmission planning, review and summarize information in docketed cases before the Board.

The intern would also have the opportunity to attend Board hearings and section staff meetings. The intern would have the opportunity to attend relevant meetings between staff and the utilities and to participate in periodic staff training.
