The Iowa Arts Council is committed to enriching the quality of life for Iowans through support of the arts. Funding for the Iowa Arts Council is provided by the State of Iowa and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
The Iowa Arts Council also administers grant programs on behalf of its parent agency, the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. These programs support the cultural vitality of Iowa through job creation, operating support and endowment support programs

Quarterly Application Deadlines
Applications for grant programs administered by the Iowa Arts Council are accepted on a quarterly basis.**
Deadline: May 1, 2013 (Project Grants, Job Creation Grants)
For grant activity taking place between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014.
Deadline: August 1, 2013 (Project Grants)
For grant activity taking place between October 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014
Deadline: November 1, 2013 (Project Grants)
For grant activity taking place between January 1, 2014 and June 30, 2014
Deadline: February 1, 2014 (Project Grants)
For grant activity taking place between April 1, 2014 and June 30, 2014
**Exceptions include Big Yellow School Bus grants which are accepted on a rolling basis after the application opens August 1.
Overview
- The Iowa Arts Council will award funding on a quarterly cycle beginning with FY2014 grant awards
- Eligible applicants can receive one Iowa Arts Council-administered grant award per state fiscal year.
State fiscal year is July 1 to June 30 ** - Up to two grant applications may be submitted per state fiscal year if the first request is unfunded
- No more than one grant application can be submitted during a single grant deadline
- Prospective grant applicants should review the chart above for funding eligibility and deadlines

- Applicants should refer to the Glossary at the bottom of this page for clarification of grant application terms and definitions
**Exceptions include Big Yellow School Bus grant recipients. Organizations designated as Cultural Leadership Partners should refer to their FY2014 funding package materials for clarification.
Project Grants
Project Grants create opportunities for the arts to flourish in Iowa by investing in projects that positively impact the vitality of the arts in the state, demonstrate public value, and support Iowa Arts Council funding priorities.

Operating Support Grants
Organizations designated as Cultural Leadership Partners by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs demonstrate an exemplary record of programming, managerial excellence and community service on a year-round basis to the citizens of Iowa.
Funding for Operating Support Grants is made possible in part by annual appropriations from the Iowa Legislature to the Arts Division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs (Iowa Arts Council) and to the County Endowment Fund – Cultural Grants state budget line item, and by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
Applications are not being accepted at this time.
Endowment Support Grants
Endowment Support Grants challenge Iowa non-profit cultural organizations to plan for and achieve long-term financial stability through technical assistance and endowment-building campaigns.
Funding for Endowment Support Grants is made possible by appropriations from the Iowa Legislature to the Iowa Cultural Trust.

Big Yellow School Bus Grants
Big Yellow School Bus Grants help underwrite field trips for pre-K-12 schools to attend arts events.
