Conferences and Workshops

The Department takes an active advocacy role in bringing issues of importance to the attention of older Iowans and those committed to their well-being. By providing opportunities for interested citizens and professionals to learn and share at conferences and workshops focusing on the lives and concerns of our growing ranks of elders, all Iowans will benefit.

Governor's Conference on Aging (GCOA) -

Notice – Aging Well Expo:  30th Annual Governor’s Conference on Aging is cancelled.

The 30th annual Governor’s Conference on Aging was cancelled due to budget reductions within the Iowa Department on Aging in FY 09 and projected for FY 10.  This decision was made in consultation with the Commission on Elder Affairs and the Governor’s Office.

The Department is doing everything possible to maintain direct services to frail and vulnerable older Iowans and will continue to do so to the best of its ability.  Savings from the event will be utilized for this purpose.

This has been a difficult and carefully considered decision.  We ask for your patience as we work to address the details related to the conference cancellation.

Mission Statement:

  • To provide an educational environment that encourages understanding of issues related to successful aging; and.
  • To promote and educate the public on the rights of older Iowans, prevention of abuse of those rights and recourse when abuse has occurred.
