2012 Proposed Legislation
The Iowa Board of Pharmacy proposes amendments to Iowa Code Chapter 124, Iowa Uniform Controlled Substances Act, and Iowa Code Chapter 124B, Precursor Substances Act by identifying and placing into appropriate drug schedules substances that meet the criteria for control and classification as controlled substances in Iowa. This bill
- Removes benzylfentanyl and thenylfentanyl from classification as Schedule I controlled substances in conformance with action by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
- Classifies as a Schedule II controlled substance the precursor chemical substance, ANPP, as an immediate precursor for the Schedule II controlled substance fentanyl, in conformance with action by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration. ANPP is used in the illicit manufacture of fentanyl. It also identifies and classifies as Schedule III controlled substances three anabolic steroids, in conformance with recent action by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
- Classifies ergocristine and its salts as a precursor substance, subject to the control and reporting requirements of the Precursor Substances Act. This substance is used in the illicit manufacture of the Schedule I controlled substance lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD).
The Iowa Board of Pharmacy proposes amendments to Iowa Code Chapter 124, Iowa Uniform Controlled Substances Act authorizing the Board of Pharmacy to enter into agreements for the sharing of information from the Iowa Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) with other states' PMP databases.
